Southwest Florida Pastel Society
The SWFPS is a society of pastel artist who live and work in Southwest Florida. Most of our members live in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, Lee and Sarasota Counties. The primary cities in these counties include Sarasota, Punta Gorda, Ft Myers and Naples. The Mission of the Society is as follows:
MISSION STATEMENT
The Southwest Florida Pastel Society was established to:
1. Promote, stimulate and foster creative painting with pastels
2. Encourage and promote pastel artists in their professional growth and success
3. Impart instructive programs and activities with exhibit
opportunities benefiting pastel artists
4. Promote fellowship with pastel artists
5. Promote public awareness of pastels
The SWFPS holds monthly meetings where they conduct the business of the society and present a program of interest to pastel artist. Please see the Meeting tab for the time and place. In addition, fund raisers and special workshops may be conducted for our members.
The society is run as a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors. The Board meets monthly after the regular membership meeting. The 2005/2006 Board consists of the following individuals:

In addition to a Board, the SWFPS maintains a number of committees who support the various functions of the society. Members are encouraged to participate in one or more of these committees:
Committees
| Art Forum | Two to three people to share the responsibility of attending the monthly meeting of the Art Forum, a group of arts organizations in Collier County. This is held on the third Friday of the month in Naples at the Naples Athletic Club. Person who attends each meeting will present any relevant information to our group at the following monthly meeting. |
| Programs | Four or more people who plan the years' special activities for each meeting (demos, etc.) and help in making arrangements. |
| Shows | As many members as possible assist in receiving, hanging and pick up of paintings at special Pastel Society shows. |
| Publicity | Four or more people assist in drafting press releases, invitations, feature articles, etc., for Pastel Society events. |
| Newsletter | Four or more people gather information for newsletter and forward to newsletter editor. |
| Membership | Two or three people solicit new members, contact new members, welcome new members and provide them with information such as carpooling, names and phone numbers of members in their geographic area, etc. |
| Web Site | Members who would gather content for our website and who would monitor bulletin board. |
| Hospitality | Four or more people who arrange and provide refreshments and work with host site to make certain the facility has necessary chairs, tables, and easels for monthly meetings. |
| Historian | Minimum of 2 people who maintain and make addtions to the Pastel Society scrapbook. |
| Special Events | Develop sites for Pastel Society shows and pastel painting events other than meetings, workshops, etc. |
| Nominating | Three people who develop a slate of nominees for positions of the Board of Directors. |
| Materials Purchasing Program | Four people to contact suppliers of pastel materials, easels, framing, photography and arrange cost saving group purchasing programs. |
| Parties | Five or more people who plan and arrange special social gatherings (one or two per year) for Pastel Society members and prospective members. |
