Our Show Judge

Chris attained a BFA in painting and two-dimensional design from Hartford Art School in 1973 and found work in the advertising field for the last 40 years, after which she returned to her passion of painting and now works in both pastels and oils.

She is the Past President of the CT Pastel Society, of which she is also a Signature Member. Chris is a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America, an Elected Artist at Lyme Art Association, Audubon Artists, Allied Artists of America, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, and Academic Artists of America. Other affiliations are with Salmagundi Club NYC, is a Signature Member of Hudson Valley Art Association, a Signature Member of Pastel Society of West Coast, and numerous other national art organizations.

Chris recently took two Best In Show Awards at the CT Women Artists Annual Juried Members Exhibit and at the New Britain Museum of American Art. She is currently Vice President of the International Association of Pastel Associations and a past board member of the Pastel Society of America. Her work has won many awards across the country and is part of private and public collections.

First Place

Two For Tea

This beautifully executed still life caught my eye as soon as I saw it. With the simplicity of directional strokes and great thought given to the setup, this artist has mastered not only the medium but has also shown how a harmony of colors can work through-out a painting. From the reflective colors running throughout the work, to the touches of light that bring the items to life, this artist is skilled at his/her craft. Congratulations! I hope to see more from this artist.

Second Place

Graceful Ending

Between the directional movement of the fallen logs and branches to the wonderful, dappled light that keeps the viewer moving around the painting, I found this artist to be self-assured of his/her ability to “hit the ground running!” The great use of temperature throughout the work lets me know that this artist is well trained in shadow and light. With the ability to have you feel the coolness of the dark while bringing you to the warmth of sunlight, I loved the motion that plays across the piece. Kudos to this master of the medium.

Collecting Memories

I can almost guarantee that this piece was painted en Plein Air due to the incredible sensitivity to color theory. Quick strokes of vibrant color in sunlight tell me this is an accom-plished artist who has spent a lot of time capturing a moment in time. Highlights and shadows play with the children in the sand and tell you that this is a beautiful, warm day. Rim light and texture only add to the delight of this wonderful little painting. Love it!

Sunlit Evening

It took me a moment to see what was happening in this near abstract, ethereal painting. But upon further inspection I was drawn into this “Forest Primeval.” Reflections and bounced light created a landscape that led me to want to know what was in the distance. This impressionistic painting captured my imagination and I wanted to know more. Calming yet mysterious I wanted to know the end of the story. This is a wonderful use of color and design. Congratulations!
